Prior to college, Nathan won the 1994 Pennsylvania State High School Championship and after his standout career at Allegheny he continued to have success both at the state and national level. He won the 2002 and 2009 Pennsylvania State Amateurs and in his career has won 23 Western Pennsylvania Golf Association (WPGA) championships. He has been named the WPGA Player of the Year six times, was named the WPGA Player of the Decade for 2000-2010, and in 2015 was inducted into the association’s Hall of Fame.
At the national level, Nathan has six USGA titles to his credit, including winning the US Mid-Amateur in 2003, 2009, 2010, and 2012. With these four victories he has won the US Mid-Amateur more times than any other player and is one of only 15 people who have captured the same USGA championship four times. His other two USGA titles came when he and partner Todd White captured the inaugural USGA Four-Ball Championship in 2015 and in 2009 when he, Sean Knapp, and Mike Van Sickle representing Pennsylvania captured the USGA State Team Championship.
In international play Nathan has represented the United States in the Walker Cup three times in 2009, 2011, and 2013, in the Concession Cup twice in 2014 and 2016, and also in the 2010 Copa de los Americas in Argentina. Nathan earned the point that secured victory for the United States Walker Cup team in 2013 at National Golf Links of America.
Nathan is a career amateur but has played against the professionals in four appearances at The Masters, at the 2004 US Open, and at the 2014 Bay Hill Invitational. His vast experience in competitive golf makes him an asset to the Board of the Amateur Golf Alliance as we work towards supporting and promoting the game at the highest level.
